Hut 33

Hut 33 (2007-2009, United Kingdom)
BBC radio show BBC radio sitcom radio sitcomThe fragile balance inside hut 33 at Bletchley Park is suddenly disturbed when Geordie Marxist Archie and 17-year-old mathematics genius Gordon are joined by a new team member. That new addition to their decoding efforts during the war is classically educated Professor Charles Gardner, who brings his knowledge of German language and tons of attitude to the equation. From the very beginning he gets rubs Archie the wrong way because of their single encounter in the past - Charles was behind the refusal to accept young Archie as a student at university because he was not the right sort of people. And from that point, the things can only escalate further, and their cooperation is of the painful kind. If, that is, Charles actually tries to cooperate, because he sees this place and company as beneath him.
And this new environment could be quite shocking for Charles - Lieutenant Joshua Featherstonhaugh-Marshall, who is his superior now, is just slightly detached from reality and inept in his efforts to do anything productive. There is oversexed pub landlady Mrs. Best who is constantly after Charles and also Polish resistance fighter Minka, who is a certified psychopath. Oh yeah, and there is war on as well.
Hut 33 had interesting setting, during World War 2 inside Bletchley Park, the characters were well-developed, the chemistry in the group was diverse enough to keep the show comfortably going for 3 seasons. The humour varied, especially some jokes about Polish Minka and her character were on a verge of being offensive, but other than that the show was surprisingly entertaining while keeping all the plots topical to the era it was set in. The cast and the interactions between the main characters built a good atmosphere, the plots were sometimes intriguing, there were very few moments that the show did not keep the good level of quality.

Hut 33 quotes
Professor Charles Gardner:
Archie, please, I have standards!
Archie:
What? You won’t sleep with anyone without a title?
Professor Charles Gardner:
I just expect my female companions to be able to speak a handful of languages, play a lute or mandolin, and... ideally yes, be of royal descent...
Archie:
Of course, Charlie’s famous mistresses - Princess Figment of the Imagination... Dutchess of Simply Doesn’t Exist
Professor Charles Gardner:
Look, if you must know my last dalliance was with a Turkish princess, a very noble Ottoman.
Archie:
Oh, so you’ve ended up shagging the furniture...
Archie:
Where did you get to last night? I knocked on your door at 3AM.
Professor Charles Gardner:
Why did you do that?
Archie:
Because I don’t like you.
Archie:
Look Charles, a bomb dropped right in front of us... And did not exploded... Hence this conversation...
