Big Town All Stars
Big Town All Stars (1998-2001, United Kingdom)
BBC radio show BBC radio sitcom radio sitcom British comedy showKenny is a geography teacher, Lorelei is a hairdresser, Johnny is a dentist and Bozo is a former boxer, but together they are the Big Town All Stars, an a cappella group with big ambitions. Well, their ambitions are not that big actually, they would like to just leave their current jobs and take on music as their profession, but as most things in life, it is not as simple as it sounds. Kenny, the leader of the band, takes care of booking their gigs and every time he thinks this could be the one that will can bring the breakthrough. The others are not that optimistic, but still, they hope that one day they will be able to quit their current jobs. They basically try every trick in the book to finally be "discovered" and change their lives - from taking wedding gigs to taking part in a breakfast TV program.
Big Town All Stars was created by Bill Dare, and it had all the hallmarks of the underdog story - four people fed up with their current jobs and hoping to break away from their current lives. But, since this is a comedy show, of course they usually fail miserably. In other instances, they just fail. Even though the plots were rather formulaic and repetitive, the strong cast and well written scripts made this a really entertaining show. Pity that just two series were produced.
