Dylan makes a living by taking part in the competitions in various magazines. Well, "makes a living" is a strong word for it, he wins things and barely manages to survive in his house in the middle of nowhere (aka Snowdonia). But that suits him fine, because he likes to be alone, which was one of the main factors why he moved into this house. But facing a growing mountain of bills to pay, he sees no other way to survive then taking on a lodger. He is not happy about it, after all that would ruin his main goal - the solitude. When Ruth visits him as a representative for the company trying to collect money from Dylan, she realizes she is fed up with her job. And that is how she became his lodger.

BBC Wales radio sitcom was slightly different than the others, no a ground breaking different by any stretch of imagination, but with the main characters mostly limited to just 3 people (Elis James as Dylan, Jo Joyner as Ruth and Milton Jones as the eccentric postman Gabriel) it certainly was different. The pacing was a bit slower (to match the atmosphere of Snowdonia), the challenges was different than in typical sitcoms (due to isolation), and the humour was a bit toned down. But overall, it was not a bad radio comedy show, more relaxing than funny, although the short lifespan (only two short series were recorded) did not really used the full potential of the setting and characters. To be fair, the characters lacked a bit of depth, some of the episodes had outlandish plots, but Be Lucky had its style.
